Strider was released by Capcom in 1989 and was a relatively big hit in the arcades before being perfectly ported to the Genesis a year later. Both the Arcade and Genesis versions are considered by many to be classics. Like most games back then, the Japanese art for the game was much different than what was released in the US.
In case you haven’t played the game, the self-titled hero you control is a futuristic ninja who flips around tearing ass on cybernetic gorillas with a light saber. That sounds like it should be enough to sell the game on its own right? Well let’s take a look at the US box art…

You would probably look at this image and think the game was about Bob from Accounting LARP’ing around in his spandex cycling gear. And what in the hell is 8 MEGA MEMORY? Geeze that’s a lot! Oh wait, there’s no such thing as a god damn MEGA. “Hey kids, HammerBrothers.com is the best site on the internets because we have 93 megazennies of gigawattz!”
The art is pretty bad on it’s own, but it is much, much worse when you compare it to the original art.

Now that is a cover!
Bad ass looking mysterious ninja dude? Check. Shadowy villain lurking in the background? Hells yeah. And more importantly, cybernetic fucking gorilla? SAY WORD.
And just to be thorough, here is some more promo art for Strider, this time for the Amistrad CPC. If you don’t know what that is, that’s okay, I didn’t either.

Look at that nut cup! Strider might have a heart of metaphorical gold, but he also makes sure that he keeps his junk protected in the real deal. White-Trash Strider is also rocking a mullet as well. I bet when dude isn’t out saving the world from cybernetic gorillas, he’s sitting on his golden ass watching Nascar and being an all-around asshole to his old lady. White-Trash Strider also may or may not drive a piece of shit Camaro.

For good measure, I’ll throw in the NES box art, which isn’t horrific like the Genesis’ one but still funny.
hahahaha seeing them all together like that is even funnier!
